A Review of Mobile Robotic Telepresence
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mobile robotic telepresence (MRP) systems incorporate video conferencing equipment onto mobile robot devices which can be steered from remote locations. These systems, which are primarily used in the context of promoting social interaction between people, are becoming increasingly popular within certain application domains such as health care environments, independent living for the elderly, and office environments. In this paper, an overview of the various systems, application areas, and challenges found in the literature concerning mobile robotic telepresence is provided. The survey also proposes a set terminology for the field as there is currently a lack of standard terms for the different concepts related to MRP systems. Further, this paper provides an outlook on the various research directions for developing and enhancing mobile robotic telepresence systems per se, as well as evaluating the interaction in laboratory and field settings. Finally, the survey outlines a number of design implications for the future of mobile robotic telepresence systems for social interaction.

متن کاملAssessing Mobile Robotic Telepresence Based On Measures of Social Telepresence
The feedbacks obtained regarding the sense of presence from pilot users operating a Mobile Robotic presence (MRP) system to visit a simulated museum are reported in this paper. The aim is to investigate how much the perception of system’s usefulness and ease of use is affected by operators’ sense of social telepresence (presence) in the remote location. Therefore, scenarios of visiting a museum...
متن کاملTowards Measurement of Interaction Quality in Social Robotic Telepresence
This paper presents tools for measuring the quality of interaction in social mobile robotic telepresence. The methodology is in part based on Adam Kendon’s theory of Fformations. The theory is based on observations of how bodies naturally orient themselves during interaction between people in real life settings. In addition, two presence questionnaires (Temple Presence Inventory and Networked M...
متن کاملDesign considerations for mobile robotic telepresence in museums- A report on the pilot users’ feedbacks
The current paper is a user-centered study that intends to evaluate the usability of MRP (mobile robotic telepresence) systems inside museums from pilot users’ perspective by obtaining feedbacks from users who deploy a MRP system to visit a museum. The main aim of this study is to provide some guidelines which might contribute greatly to design and development of future telepresence robots that...
